Our first Little Free Library--check it out at the Markleeville Library!

The Alpine County Library Commission in cooperation with the Friends of the Library proudly sponsor

Little Free Libraries throughout Alpine County. These are essentially containers that are used as a book exchange, and are used by community members and by people traveling through. our area.  Currently, we sponsor one at the Markleeville Library, Markleeville Post Office, Mad Dog Cafe (on front porch) and in the Bear Valley Lodge.

If you would like information on how to create or sponsor one , please let us know!

There are as many types of Little Free Libraries as there are people! Here are a few examples to get your mind going: : https://www.google.com/search?q=little+free+library&rlz=1C2TBGN_enUS523US566&biw=1920&bih=9

FRIENDS MEETINGS - Typically helod on the first Saturday of the month, 8:30 am, at the Markleeville Library (please call to verify).  Members of the public are welcome to attend all meetings and are encouraged to get involved! The main function of the Friends of the Library is to augment the programs and events of the County Library system. They help fund Summer Reading programs, monthly Book Clubs and writing workshops. Likewise they provide financial support for library events such as children's Storytimes, Author Visits, and the ever popular  Music in the Park series. In addition to programming and events, the Friends fund the purchase of tables, shelving units, signage, magazine subscriptions, and many other items that help the Library thrive. Without the support of the Friends, our Libraries would be very hollow indeed! Beyond the standard Book Sale, the Friends raise money by hosting the annual Wine in the Garden Fundraiser, and selling locally authored books and other merchandise. The Friends also raise money through donations & annual memberships drives.
