Alpine County Sheriff’s Office Invites the Public to Review its OHV Grant Application

The Alpine County Sheriff’s Office is developing its Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) draft grant application that will be submitted to the State of California Department of Parks and Recreation on March 2nd, 2026. The application will be available for public review from March 3rd, 2026 to May 4th, 2026. The Alpine County Sheriff's Office is dedicated to serving the public. Our agency strives to provide a safe environment for everyone who lives in or visits Alpine County. Covering an area of roughly 1,100 square miles, approximately 90% of the land is public owned. Having no incorporated cities within the county, the Sheriff's Office provides full service law enforcement services to the entire area.

Facilities

The Markleeville office is the headquarters for the Sheriff's Office, sharing a county building with the County Administration Offices. There are no jail facilities in Alpine County. Jail services are contracted to El Dorado County and Calaveras County.

Employees

The Markleeville office employs 14 sworn officers, including Sheriff Tom Minder and Undersheriff Chris Harootunian. The remaining officers have various assignments ranging from patrol duties, narcotics enforcement, off-highway vehicle enforcement, search and rescue, and bailiff duties.
