Grant Funding Opportunities

There are a number of options for grant funding for both individuals and community organizations / county government. Below are some the available programs and points of contact.

Funding Assistance Programs for Individual Landowners

The California Forest Improvement Program is geared towards assisting landowners in forest health improvement and conservation. The USDA Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS) and an Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) which can also provide assistance to individual landowners seeking improvement Learn more about the program here at their website. This program is a federal program managed by the USDA.

Both programs have specific enrollment periods each year, reach out to the program contacts for more information enrollment periods and requirements. 

Assistance from Alpine County to private landowners for restoration of the Tamarack Fire is still available. These activities are focused on removing dead trees and biomass and replanting seedlings. For more information, check out the Tamarack Fire restoration page.

Grant Programs for Organizations and Counties

The California Fire Safe Council has grant programs for local councils and counties to seek funding. Alpine County has been the recipient of the County Coordinator funds for the last few years. The US Forest Service has a Community Wildfire Defense Grant program for assisting local communities with wildfire mitigation near federal land. Learn more about this program here.

The Sierra Nevada Conservancy provides assistance across a variety of grant programs aimed at conservation. They have provided Alpine County and the Alpine Watershed Group for forest resiliency and capacity building projects. Learn more about their grant programs here.
